Mud Bay Jugglers

This startlingly inventive troupe juggles genres as easily as objects, weaving theatre, dance, performance art, physical comedy, and juggling into a creative and infectious entertainment experience. In soft seat theatres, in family festivals, on university campuses, at events of all kinds throughout the United States and Western Canada, the Mud Bay Jugglers work their choreographic and juggling magic to lively music for a mesmerizing and emotional performance.

Since 1980, masters of levity Doug Martin, Alan Fitzthum and Harry Levine have captivated audiences of all ages. About the only thing predictable about their constantly evolving material is that there will always be plenty of music and mirth and lots of surprises. No wonder Jugglers World magazine called them “one of the most original and creative troupes performing today”.

Douglas Martin: Doug co-founded the Mud Bay Jugglers in 1980 and is proud to be serving in his 23rd year as performer and artistic co-director. He co-created four shows for the Company, and his desire to create the unique and the unusual has motivated the company to great discoveries. Doug has toured Australia, Scotland and Japan as part of Lajoye Theatre Production Company. He enjoys presenting his unique talents as a musician, mime, escape artist, funambulist, and of course as a juggler. Doug is particularly proud of his musical accomplishments on the musical glasses.

Alan Fitzthum: Alan began his training as a juggler in 1974 and joined the Mud Bay Jugglers in 1982 as a principal performer and juggler. He has appeared in all Mud Bay Juggler performances to date. As choreographer and artistic director, Alan’s involvement with the Company has been invaluable. He has helped to create what Jugglers World called “a revelation – juggling and dance merged into a single theatrically expressive performance art”. Alan began his performance career as a rock musician, and he has had years of experience in other creative endeavours – including working in wood and metal.

Harry Levine: Harry joined the Mud Bay Jugglers in 1988 as a percussionist four years after founding and touring Citizens Band, performing satirical theatre and music throughout the western U.S. In 1990 Harry began to stage manage for the Company’s theatre shows and perform part-time as a juggler. He became a full-time MBJ performer in 1995. Harry also co-manages a non-profit arts association that presents independent film, music and allied arts.
